Small Cap in Japan - the Leaders in Asia?

Bob Patterson on April 18, 2005 at 1:11 pm

The article in todays Financial Times intitled “Time to Go Big on Japan’s Small Caps” (page 28 in the US edition) offers the Anglo Saxon investor the opportunity to learn how Feng Shui may enhance Modern Portfolio Theory. Will small cap lead the large cap in Asia as they do in the West? What differences will we see in the amount of volatility? We often talk about the “direction” of the market or its “momentum” when using modern portfolio theory. Why not consider a 1,000 year old tradition like Feng Shui when looking at modern markets? I am certainly no expert, but I would bet that we will see a lot of opportunity on the small cap space in Asia. The trick is finding the manager with the best approach….including Feng Shui…. to help in our random walk thru Central Hong Kong.

It truly is amazing what you learn from television…

It truly is amazing what you learn from television and movies. They are an untapped source of advice and answers to all of life’s problems. I heard a great quote tonight….

“Never take life too seriously. You’ll never get out alive!”

Why is it that we can’t live by the rules and solutions that are shown to us by those two mediums???? Life would be so great!

I also learned these other things too:

1. Always cut the blue wire, never the red…..or is it the other way around?
2. Never run from the homicidal maniac that is trying to kill you…..he always finds and kills you!
3. Sure fire way to fall in love with someone is to make a bet with your friends that you can date/kiss/change/or make prom queen out the wallflower.
4. Never embarrass the quiet shy kids. They always come back after you when they become evil. That or they get a makeover and become the most handsome/beautiful person that you know and they turn you down!
5. Always shoot the bad guy in the head. Diminishes the chances that they are just faking to lure you in a false reassurance.

That, folks, are rules to live by! My advice….watch more tv and movies. You’ll learn everything you need to know.
